The Down Side Cast…

cassmug.jpg Cassidy Jameson is the long-suffering superintendent of Ravenstooth Apartments, which is owned by her grandfather. She only runs it because, as someone with only three degrees, it’s this or managing a retail establishment. And not the good kind. Cass has a good head on her shoulders, picks things up quickly, and can fix almost anything that gets broken (learning this skill quickly with Joey Saint around. Cassie love NASCAR and is a fan of Black Canary, though comics in general are a bit beyond her. Slow to anger - except in the presence of something that reminds her of the Wizard of Oz (which she hates) - Cassie has an explosive temper when provoked. But all around, she’s the sanest person in Ravenstooth.

paulmug.jpgPaul Saint is the elder brother of Joey, and finds himself sharing an apartment with his brother because no one else has the patience to live with him. Paul is independently comfortable, having won the grand prize in a “Dot Gobbler” video game challenge several years back - enough money to live lower-middle class with no other job if he played his cards right. Sadly, fixing Joey’s messes is eating into his savings and forcing him to think about some sort of part-time job. Paul is the one who bears the brunt of his brother’s insane schemes, living in fear of their mother as he does, and is happiest playing video games in peace. His girlfriend, Stella, may actively be trying to kill Joey so she can manipulate Paul without distraction.

joeymug.jpg Joey Saint is nuts, but in a mad-genius way. Without the genius. He hatches plenty of get-rich quick schemes - from his rap-opera opus to running for president of the local bank (no, he wasn’t aware it wasn’t an elected position at the time.) Joey loves pop culture in general and comic books in specific — he takes them very, very personally and enjoys restraining orders from a number of high-profile creators. After being kicked out of his last apartment by his now-ex girlfriend, Joey moved in with his brother for “just a couple weeks.” That was six years ago. Paul has generally resigned himself to the fate of being his brother’s keeper, but Joey is constantly on the search for the money to leave. He loves his brother in his own way, and doesn’t want to be a burden (not that he’d admit that.) He also refuses to leave until Paul is broken up with his present girlfriend, who Joey is close to certain is actually the devil in disguise (cue Elvis.) Joey sees potential in a relationship between Paul and Cassie, much to their mutual embarrassment.

tedmug.jpg Ted is the Grim Reaper. Problem is, his employers decided they needed a new image… and so Ted was let go. Unemployed, and with no other skills besides gardening and being Death, he finds himself living at the Ravenstooth searching for his place in life, and no - the irony is not lost on him. Ted has become close to Joey Saint and often participates in his mad schemes - sometimes through fascination, sometimes boredom. Ted is a cheery guy, despite looking like a emo-goth nutbar. He looks like a skeleton, but no one has ever seen him out of the robes. Is he human? It doesn’t matter. He is Ted, and if that’s enough for Joey, it should be enough for you. Ted has a problem with impulsively blowing his unemployment checks on silly things… so make sure never to lend him money. Once he pegs you as a lender, you’ll never get him out of your life…
